5,000 Umrah visas issued daily from Karachi
For the first time in the history of country, about 5,000 visas were issued on a daily basis to Karachiites for the purpose of Umrah by the Consulate of Saudi Arabia since the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
This was stated by the Memon Khidmat Forum Chairman Haji Masood Parekh on Tuesday after a meeting of the forum.
He lauded the efforts for the issuance of 5,000 visas daily and thanked the government of Saudi Arabia in this regard. Parekh informed that the staff of SA Consulate in Karachi was working day and night for the issuance of visas, which, he said was highly commendable. He also appreciated the efforts of the Saudi Arabian ambassador for extending assistance to the flood affectees of Pakistan.

Luxury hotels in Mecca were full for Hajj
Luxury hotels around the Grand Mosque in Mecca were running full for this year's Hajj despite hundreds of new rooms opening. "Makkah Hilton & Towers were a sell-out for the month surrounding Hajj," said Shuja Zaidi, the hotel's general manager and vice president for Hilton Worldwide projects in Saudi Arabia. "We had expected rates to be lower than in 2010 due to the increased supply of hotel rooms in and around the Haram." But demand exceeded supply and rates remained "in line" with last year.
