New terminal of Prince Muhammad Airport to be completed by October
Published in 25.08.10

Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed, Medina’s governor declared that the new terminal passenger at Prince Muhammad International Airport will be operating by the first week of October.

Medina’s Governor announced that “They have given their instructions to maintain the speedier works of Prince Muhammad Airport project so that the project could progress” adding that this new Airport will be able to welcome more local flights.

The huge growing number of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims has been taken into consideration when designing this airport. The project first expansion phase would be finalized by 2014.

Prince Abdul Aziz inspected the progress of works of the eastern courtyard of the Prophet’s Mosque and the transport facilities near the mosque too. The Mosque’s expansion covers 37,000 square meters and it aims at providing 70,000 additional places to pilgrims.

The costs of the works of the mosque expansion are SR4.7 million. This project was ordered by the King Abdullah and it includes the installation of 250 sunshades in courtyards around the mosque for the benefit of 200,000 worshippers.

By the end of the project, all residential areas of old Medina will be part of the mosque's complex .The project’s main purpose is to ensure the best conditions and allow pilgrims to perform their rituals in the best atmosphere, especially when taking into consideration the over crowdedness that Mecca’s city is witnessing .

Luxury hotels in Mecca were full for Hajj
Luxury hotels around the Grand Mosque in Mecca were running full for this year's Hajj despite hundreds of new rooms opening. "Makkah Hilton & Towers were a sell-out for the month surrounding Hajj," said Shuja Zaidi, the hotel's general manager and vice president for Hilton Worldwide projects in Saudi Arabia. "We had expected rates to be lower than in 2010 due to the increased supply of hotel rooms in and around the Haram." But demand exceeded supply and rates remained "in line" with last year.
