The General Presidency of Holy Mosques Affairs has intensified its efforts to improve the amenities that are offered to pilgrims with reduced mobility. Recently, it beefed up its wheelchair service at the holy mosque.
About 6,000 wheelchairs are to be freely offered by the presidency’s office at the eastern plaza of the Grand Mosque and about 600 others are supplied by private organizations
Moreover, Fifty men volunteer to push the wheelchairs between the Dhuhur prayer and midnight.
The Al-Safa office which is located on the first floor of the holy mosque puts at the disposal of pilgrims more than 100 motorized wheelchairs for rental and more than 500 wheelchairs are also available on the ground floor. It is important to note that the rental fee will witness an increase during the ten last days of Ramadan.
Over 100 employees are inspecting the management and renting of the wheelchairs. They issue licenses to Saudis to work as wheelchair pushers too.
The controllers make sure that the wheelchair pushers do not overcharge pilgrims and that they restrict the use of the track for just persons with reduces mobility.
The administration looks for the Haram’s police assistance to stop and penalize unlicensed people who offer persons with reduced mobility services.
13 gates represent entries to the Grand Mosque for wheelchairs, to name King Abdul Aziz, King Fahd, Al-Umrah, Al-Madinah, Jisr Al-Madinah, Jisr Al-Nadwah, Al-Fatah, Al-Qararah, Al-Safa New, Al-Hunain and Ajyad.
