Washing of the Holy kaaba

On July 13th 2010, The Holy kaaba went through one of its two annual washings. The washing was performed by Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Ibn Abdulaziz, the Governor of Makkah Province. The Prince cleaned the interior of the  Kaaba using Zamzam water mixed with rosewater.



The ceremony was attended by some local dignitaries and foreign Muslim personalities including Chechenya’s President Ramazan Kadyrov, heads of governmental departments, members of Islamic diplomatic corps accredited in the Kingdom as well as groups of citizens and performers of Umrah.
The Vice President-General of the Holy Mosque of Makkah Affairs Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Khozaim emphasized on the efforts made by the Saudi leadership to care for the Holy Kaaba and Two Holy Mosques, pointing out that the cleaning of Kaaba is an evidence of its interests in the Holy Mosque of Makkah. It is from Sunnah to wash Kaaba, and the Saudi government performs the washing twice a year, once before Ramadan, and once during Hajj. It is a unique opportunity to see the kaaba from inside, something which is not affordable by everybody in the Islamic World.

Luxury hotels in Mecca were full for Hajj
Luxury hotels around the Grand Mosque in Mecca were running full for this year's Hajj despite hundreds of new rooms opening. "Makkah Hilton & Towers were a sell-out for the month surrounding Hajj," said Shuja Zaidi, the hotel's general manager and vice president for Hilton Worldwide projects in Saudi Arabia. "We had expected rates to be lower than in 2010 due to the increased supply of hotel rooms in and around the Haram." But demand exceeded supply and rates remained "in line" with last year.
